Diigo is a brand new tool to me, however I wish I would have been introduced earlier! I enjoy the "facebook" quality in which users can comment on other's posts, upload pictures, and edit the photos uploaded. I missed class the day it was initially introduced, however, after messing around with it for a bit, I was able to catch on. I cannot wait to explore this web tool over the course of the semester and learn more of it's tricks and tips.
My dream career is to be a travel writer. In today's technology based society, my job would most likely be based around blogging. That being said, getting familiar with Blogger and how to change the layout, and add links to other websites like my Twitter has given me skills that will be useful in a career I will be pursuing in two short months! Thus, I have enjoyed using my EME 2040 class as practice with a blogging website. However, I find that the intention of my blogging for this class is different than I what I would prefer to do, which is write about exotic locations and attractions across the world. Though I have gained many skills in how to maneuver around a blogging website, I wish my posts were focused more on my passions, rather than requirements for this class. I cannot complain at all about what this course has taught me, because the blogging skills are extremely valuable in my future career, and I thank EME 2040 for that!
Upon searching for valuable Web 2.0 tools, I came across "Shadow Puppet", an app in which students download it on their phone, then narrate over pictures either taken from or uploaded to their phones. I plan to one day be an English teacher, preferably at the high school level. I want my lessons to revolve around writing, and thus I find that "Shadow Puppet" would be a creative way for students to share their writing without having to stand in front of a class and read it aloud. "Shadow Puppet" would encourage students to write descriptive, intriguing creative writing essays, as the app allows them to show case their writing through pictures and narration. I find this app a great way for shy students to utilize their voice and be creative without having to stand in front of peers. By creating a video highlighting their essay with animation and sound, all students are given an inviting way to make their voice heard through the writing they have produced. It is easy to use, and can be used for other subjects. For example, in a history class, a student could present a primary document and analyze it, or explain a science experience in steps divided up by pictures of each step. Overall, it is an easy to use, fun app that lets students use their cellphones for educational purposes. It is available in iPhone and Android forms, allowing access for even more students.
